Adventures of New Homeowners

Well we have been home owners for almost a week now. And what a freaking crazy week it has been. We moved in on Saturday the 28th.

Saturday: On that hectic moving day we discovered that our couches would not fit downstairs(that is where I was going to put my living room). Then after that hubby went to work. When he was gone I discovered that there was no hot water. Great right. Just wait it does get better. My mother in law went downstairs to see if the pilot light was out on the water heater. She couldn't see the light but could smell gas. I went down and I smelled gas too. I read the step by step instructs on how to light the pilot light while she did what I said. Then I read:

"You should not smell gas. If you do STOP, don't use your phone, don't touch your light switches, go outside and call the gas company or the fire department. Use your neighbor's phone to call."

GREAT!!!! So we get Hailey and the dog and sit in the car while I look for the gas company's phone number. I was so done with the day that my awesome mother in law called them for me. They told us to stay outside and they would send someone. Some time later a guy from the gas company showed up and he was so good. He made us feel safe about the home and was so thorough. He waved his gas detector wand thingy around the pipes on the water heater and it went crazy. I looked at my mother in law and started to panic inside. He then looked at us and said

"Don't worry it sounds worse than it really is."

Not really reassuring but ok sir I will believe you right now. So he fixes the leak and shows us how to light the pilot light. Good we are set. Well then he starts to check the furnace since he is there. Did you know that there is something called "combustibale air"? Well apparently your furnace and water heater (like your car) need air to work and not choke. We need to make sure more air is getting into that room. Ok we are fine there, Geoff and I can get that taken care of.

By the end of that day I tape up my curtains and try to sleep. I am exhausted by midnight. What a long and crazy day. Thank goodness it was over. With all that how bad can Sunday be right? Wrong.

Sunday: That morning I woke up and took the dog outside. I stareted to spray weeds with weed killer. I got the baby up and started breakfast. Great morning. I then went to the old house to keep gathering stuff and had to run to Walmart. Not a bad day so far. Geoff's family came over for dinner that night. No biggie. The smoke detector decided to go off while using the oven. Thats okay nothing big right. Then after grandma used the toilet it clogged. Emily and I ran to Walmart to buy a plunger. Mom had to come and help cause I for some reason could not get it. She got it and then we heard a "THUNK PLUNK BLOB BLOB THUNK PLUNK" kinda noise. It scared me. Now everytime you flush the toilet it sounds like it is coming up from the bathtub and the kitchen sink. Do you think that it is safe to keep using? I have no idea. It doesn't do it every single time but enough to be a problem.

I then found out that the dishwasher leaks while running. Not a whole lot but enough that I cried a bit. Finally it is bedtime and I am ready to close my eyes.

Monday: Other than work nothing really happened except that the toilet plumbing still was making noise. Did I mention that I am still exhausted and just want to sleep. We went to Home Depot and Walmart to buy a few things that we needed. Nothing to fix any problems. I feel like I have been living at those 2 stores. I finally got to sleep.

Tuesday: Work and more work. Geoff finally got the washer and dryer hooked up. At first the washer was electrifing. No bueno. Then we got it started and went upstairs. When Geoff went down to the laundry room he saw water everywhere. So needless to say there is a problem. But on the up side we met our next door neighbors. They brought us a plate of cookies to welcome us to the neighborhood. They were super nice.

Wednesday: Today Geoff took laundry to his mom's house because of our stupid drain. While she had our clothes washing, Comcast and the plumber came over, at the same time. I was at work stressing away while trying to be a good employee and take care of things at home. So Comcast wasn't that bad. We just have to run a cable under the carpet to the TV cause there was to power outlet where they could put the cable jack.

Thursday: Not a lot happened except that even more water came into the houes from the drain. It is getting to be crazy. We cant run anything together and its almost to the point where we cant shower or give bear a bath. GRRRRR

Friday: Well since the day is barely started not much can go wrong right. Well guess again. I went into the office to pay bills and guess what I found. Its hard to tell in the picture but let me tell you what it is. It is water in my carpet! From that stupid problem one room over!!!!! I cant believe this is happening to us. We just wanted a nice place to live to raise our family. We havent even lived in the place a week and I am done!!! Well I am going to go visit my cousin and go to the mall. Little Bear needs clothes and they have some cute stores there for her.

If this is what happens the first week of homeownership I think I may want to go back to renting. HAHA. I still love my house with all its problems. I just wish it would calm down so I can relax and enjoy my house. I'm sure I will look back and laugh at this all but right now not so much.
